Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Hawker Medical Practice welcomes new patients. New patients should phone the practice on (02) 6255 2400 to make their first appointment rather than booking online. Your initial consultation will usually be booked as a longer appointment so your GP has time to discuss your medical history and current health needs

A standard consultation is generally suitable for one or two straightforward concerns. If you have several issues to discuss, a complex medical history or think you’ll need more time with your doctor, please book a longer appointment. New adult patients are generally booked for a 30-minute initial consultation.

Choosing the right appointment length helps our doctors run on time and ensures your health concerns aren’t rushed.

  • Standard Appointment (15 mins): Best for a single, straightforward health concern, a routine script renewal, or a follow-up discussion.

  • Long Appointment (30 mins): Required for new patients, multiple or complex health issues, mental health consultations, skin cancer checks, or procedures (like implant insertions/removals). If you are unsure, please speak to our reception team when booking.

An appointment is required for repeat prescriptions and referrals. This allows your GP to make sure your medication or referral remains appropriate for your current health needs. Depending on your circumstances and your doctor’s discretion, this may sometimes be suitable for a telehealth appointment.

Hawker Medical Practice is a very busy Practice and patients are encouraged to come to the Practice to see the Doctor. Appointments can be made from Monday to Friday, if a patient is physically unable to come into the Practice, home visits can be made where necessary for existing long-term patients with mobility concerns, at the discretion of the patient’s regular Doctor.

If a result requires urgent attention, a doctor or nurse will contact you. For non-urgent results that require follow-up, you may receive a message asking you to book an appointment. If you haven’t heard from the practice within a week of having your test, please contact us to check whether your results have been received. Reception staff are unable to provide or interpret medical results

We will always make time available for patients needing emergency treatment or who may walk-in to the surgery.

If you believe that you or your child needs urgent medical care please say so to the receptionist. She may discuss with the nurse or medical staff the situation.

We may arrange for you to come to the surgery at once to be seen by a doctor or may advise you to go straight to hospital. You may decide after the discussion that the matter does not need same day treatment and a later appointment can be scheduled.
