Longer Appointments

If you have several problems you’d like to discuss, you will need a longer consultation to allow the doctor to give you the attention you need. Please advise staff, when making your appointment, whether you require a standard or long consultation.

A higher fee is charged for longer consultations. You should also advise staff if more than one member of your family require to be seen so that an appointment can be made for each of them.

Emergencies

We will always make time available for patients needing emergency treatment.
If you believe that you or your child needs urgent medical care please say so to the receptionist. She may discuss with the nurse or medical staff the situation.

We may arrange for you to come to the surgery at once to be seen by a doctor or may advise you to go straight to hospital. You may decide after the discussion that the matter does not need same day treatment and a later appointment can be scheduled.

Referals and Repeat Prescriptions

An appointment must be made for all referrals or repeat prescriptions. No phone referrals or prescriptions are given.

E-Mail Requests

Before giving medical advice, taking a proper history of presenting illness and physical examination of the patient is imperative.

Unencrypted electronic transmission of confidential medical information is not secure. Therefore, Hawker Medical Practice is unable to provide medical advice by email.

Cancellation of Appointments

Given that it can be difficult to get an appointment when you want it, and with whom you want it, we do ask our patients to advise the practice if you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment.

We often have a waiting list of patients eager to see the doctor, so help us to help them by letting us know if you can’t make it. Cancelling or not attending an appointment without adequate notice (4 hours) may incur a charge of $40 (standard), $75 (long).
