- If you need a longer appointment or a procedure, please let our receptionist know.
- If a same day appointment is not available with the Doctor of your choice, the receptionist may offer you an appointment with another Doctor within our Practice.
Fees
The Hawker Medical Practice has a discount fee for pensioners and other health care card holders. Payment is required at the time of consultation. Bulk billing is not available for consultations. Some of the visits to our practice nurse is bulk billed.
Fees for common consultations are*:

The fee charged depends not only on the time you spend with your doctor, but, more importantly, the level of complexity of your problems. If the doctor also performs a procedure, such as removal of moles, pregnancy testing, contraception implants etc, additional charges will be incurred.
Reception staff can provide our fee structure* for other services upon request.

All Workers Compensation claims and Third-Party Insurance claims are the responsibility of the patient. Payment at the time of consultation is required. New patients to the practice please be aware we do not take on new or transferring workers compensation / third party claims.
The practice does not operate on credit and patients are requested to pay at the time of the consultation. We accept cash, cheque, EFTPOS and credit card. After payment for the consultation, we could electronically submit your Medicare claim so the Medicare rebate is directly deposit into the your bank account.
Home Visits
Hawker Medical Practice is a very busy Practice and patients are encouraged to come to the Practice to see the Doctor. Appointments can be made from Monday to Friday, if a patient is physically unable to come into the Practice, home visits can be made where necessary for existing long-term patients with mobility concerns, at the discretion of the patient’s regular Doctor.
Longer Appointments
If you have several problems you’d like to discuss, you will need a longer consultation to allow the doctor to give you the attention you need. Please advise staff, when making your appointment, whether you require a standard or long consultation.
A higher fee is charged for longer consultations. You should also advise staff if more than one member of your family require to be seen so that an appointment can be made for each of them.
Emergencies
We will always make time available for patients needing emergency treatment.
If you believe that you or your child needs urgent medical care please say so to the receptionist. She may discuss with the nurse or medical staff the situation.
We may arrange for you to come to the surgery at once to be seen by a doctor or may advise you to go straight to hospital. You may decide after the discussion that the matter does not need same day treatment and a later appointment can be scheduled.
Referals and Repeat Prescriptions
An appointment must be made for all referrals or repeat prescriptions. No phone referrals or prescriptions are given.
E-Mail Requests
Before giving medical advice, taking a proper history of presenting illness and physical examination of the patient is imperative.
Unencrypted electronic transmission of confidential medical information is not secure. Therefore, Hawker Medical Practice is unable to provide medical advice by email.
Cancellation of Appointments
Given that it can be difficult to get an appointment when you want it, and with whom you want it, we do ask our patients to advise the practice if you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment.
We often have a waiting list of patients eager to see the doctor, so help us to help them by letting us know if you can’t make it. Cancelling or not attending an appointment without adequate notice (4 hours) may incur a charge of $50 (standard), $100 (long).
